PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia’s daily commute is set for a temporary shake-up next week, as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announces a series of bridge inspections across several major highways. Motorists are being alerted to prepare for potential slowdowns during these essential checks aimed at ensuring public safety and infrastructure integrity.
Starting Monday, May 20, through Thursday, May 23, travelers will encounter lane closures across crucial segments of Philadelphia’s highway network, including southbound I-95 and westbound I-676. The inspections will necessitate a left lane closure on southbound I-95 at the Bartram Avenue/Essington Avenue Interchange, a right lane closure on westbound I-676 between the I-95 and I-76 interchanges, and similar obstructions on the Spring Garden Street bridge and northbound I-95.
Scheduled between the hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM, and in one instance extending from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, these closures are poised to disrupt the flow of traffic, prompting PennDOT to advise drivers to allow extra travel time. With all activities contingent on weather conditions, commuters are encouraged to stay informed about the latest updates and adjust their travel plans accordingly.
