Two Teenagers Arrested in Claymont Stolen Vehicle Incident

CLAYMONT, DE — The New Castle County Division of Police announced the arrest of a 15-year-old male juvenile and a 16-year-old male juvenile after they fled from police in a stolen motor vehicle.

The criminal complaint alleges that on Sunday, April 23, 2023, at approximately 12:59 p.m. Mobile Enforcement Team (MET) officers were conducting a proactive patrol near the area of Ridge Road – Claymont. While on the scene, officers observed a white in color Kia Rio driving at a high rate of speed which was occupied by three subjects who were all wearing ski masks.

Officers attempted to stop the Kia Rio, however, the suspects fled in the vehicle. Officers conducted a property check of the area at which time they observed the Kia Rio crashed into a parked vehicle. The three occupants had exited the car and were observed running towards a tree line near Myrtle Avenue.

With the assistance of K9 Fiasko, his handler, and the Delaware State Police Aviation Section, officers were able to locate and detain two of the three suspects. The suspects were identified as a 15-year-old juvenile male and a 16-year-old juvenile male. Further investigation revealed that the Kia Rio had been stolen in Pennsylvania earlier that day.

The 15-year-old male juvenile was charged with one felony count of receiving stolen property, one felony count of disregarding a police officer signal, one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest, one misdemeanor count of leaving the scene of an accident, and additional traffic offenses. He was arraigned by New Castle County Family Court and released to his parent-guardian.

The 16-year-old male juvenile was charged with one felony count of receiving stolen property and one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest. He was arraigned by New Castle County Family Court and released to his parent-guardian.
