Tragic Bicycle Crash Leaves One Dead in New Castle: Delaware State Police Investigate

NEW CASTLE, DE — The Delaware State Police announced they are investigating a fatal bicycle crash that occurred Saturday night in New Castle that left one man dead.

According to Investigators, on September 2, 2023, at approximately 9:02 p.m., a gray 2018 BMW M760 was traveling in the right eastbound lane on Pulaski Highway approaching the intersection with Wilton Boulevard. A bicyclist was traveling southbound from Wilton Boulevard approaching the intersection with Pulaski Highway. The bicyclist was struck by the BMW when he entered the intersection into the BMW’s path against the red traffic signal for southbound Wilton Boulevard. The bicyclist was ejected from the bicycle and came to rest approximately 50 feet southeast of the intersection.

The bicyclist, a 56-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His name is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified. The driver of the BMW, a 30-year-old man from New Castle, Delaware, was not injured.

The roadway was closed for approximately 4 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
