LANCASTER COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced lane restrictions on Route 30 at the Columbia/Marietta/Route 441 Exit in Lancaster County.
On Monday, July 22, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, weather permitting, there will be left lane closures on both eastbound and westbound Route 30. These restrictions are necessary to demonstrate a newly installed contraflow gate on the east side of the Wrights Ferry Bridge.
The contraflow gate is an incident management tool. It allows two lanes of traffic to be directed onto either side of the Route 30 bridge if an incident shuts down the opposite structure. This gate would only be used in the event of a long-term closure. Traffic control devices and a median crossover on the west side of the bridge in York County will support its operation.
Motorists should expect backups and delays. PennDOT advises extra caution and travel time.
This work is part of a project to improve the median barrier on the Wrights Ferry Bridge. JD Eckman, Inc., based in Atglen, PA, is the prime contractor for this $5,247,787 project.
