Teen Arrested in Wilmington for Possession of Loaded 9mm Handgun

WILMINGTON, DE — The Wilmington Police announced the arrest of 18-year-old Markye Chandler on gun charges.

Authorities stated that on February 23, at approximately 3:25 p.m., members of the Wilmington Street Crimes Unit were in the 700 block of East 22nd Street, when they observed 18-year-old Markye Chandler acting suspiciously. Officers made contact with Chandler and following a brief investigation reportedly located a loaded 9mm handgun. Chandler was taken into custody without incident.

Chandler was charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited – Two Counts
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
  • Tampering with Physical Evidence

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution $32,000 cash-only bail.
