Scam Alert: Caller Claims to Be With Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Demands Gift Card Payments

LANCASTER, PA — Lancaster County residents are being warned of a scam involving a caller claiming to be with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office while demanding payments.

Authorities state that local officials are aware of at least one case and believe others could be targeted.

The caller has mimicked calls regarding warrants, missed courts dates, and no response to jury duty.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office states it will never call demanding payment over the phone regarding these matters.

On at least one occasion, the scam caller told the targeted victim to go to CVS Pharmacy, purchase a gift card, and read the code to them.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office reports that the incident is under investigation.
