DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Construction will occur at night next week on Interstate 95 in Delaware County under an $80.6 million Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) project to rehabilitate pavement and several bridges on more than 11 miles of the interstate in Lower Chichester, Upper Chichester, Chester, Ridley and Tinicum townships, the City of Chester and Upland and Ridley Park boroughs.

The work schedules and locations are as follows:

  • Monday, October 16, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a right lane closure will be in place on northbound I-95 from the Delaware state line to the Kerlin Street (Exit 5) Interchange for sign installation;
  • Tuesday, October 17, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, a right lane closure will be in place on northbound I-95 between the Kerlin Street (Exit 5) and Route 291 East (Exit 10) interchanges for sign installation; and
  • Wednesday, October 18, through Friday, October 20, from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning, moving lane closures will be in place on sections of northbound and southbound I-95 between the Delaware state line and the Philadelphia International Airport Interchange (Exit 12) for final construction activities.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur. The work times will be adjusted as needed next week to accommodate traffic traveling to-and-from the Sports Complex in South Philadelphia.

PennDOT’s contractor, Allan A. Myers, Inc., will be undertaking a project to improve road infrastructure. This includes rehabilitating existing concrete pavement, repairing bridges, upgrading guide rail, installing new signage, and enhancing the Pennsylvania Welcome Center. The project is funded by a combination of federal and state funds.
