PHILADELPHIA, PA — Construction activities will occur next week on Interstate 95 in Delaware County under an $80.6 million Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) project to rehabilitate pavement and several bridges on more than 11 miles of the interstate in Lower Chichester, Upper Chichester, Chester, Ridley and Tinicum townships, the City of Chester and Upland and Ridley Park boroughs.
The work schedules and locations are:
- Tuesday, September 5, and Thursday, September 7, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on southbound I-95 from just north of the U.S. 322 East/Commodore Barry Bridge Interchange (Exit 4) to the U.S. 322 West/West Chester (Exit 3B-A) Interchange;
- Wednesday, September 6, and Thursday, September 7, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on southbound I-95 between the and Philadelphia International Airport (Exit 12) and Route 420 (Exit 9A-B) interchanges; and
- Friday, September 8, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on northbound I-95 from the U.S. 322 West/West Chester (Exit 3B-A) Interchange to just north of the U.S. 322 East/Commodore Barry Bridge Interchange (Exit 4).
Allow extra time when traveling through or near the work areas because significant backups and delays are expected. All scheduled activities are weather dependent and subject to change.
PennDOT’s project involves milling, overlaying, and rehabilitating existing concrete pavement, repairing bridges and median barriers, upgrading guide rails, installing new markings and signs, and improving the Pennsylvania Welcome Center with repairs and new features.
Allan A. Myers, Inc. of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
