Police Investigation Leads to Officer Discharging Weapon in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE — The New Castle County Police has released an update on the officer-involved shooting that took place Monday evening.

According to the press release, on March 6, at approximately 7:40 p.m., officers from the New Castle County Division of Police were conducting a drug investigation in the area of Maryland Avenue and W. Champlain Avenue.

During the course of this investigation, an officer discharged their weapon striking a male and female subject. Both subjects were transported to Christiana Medical Center where the male subject was later pronounced deceased. The female subject is currently being treated at the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

Investigators from the Criminal Investigations Unit and the Delaware Department of Justice-Division of Civil Rights and Public Trust are currently investigating this shooting. As per Division policy, the officer has been placed on administrative leave while the investigation is conducted.
