Police Investigate Shooting in Newark: Victim Injured in Road Rage Incident

NEWARK, DE — The Delaware State Police announced they are investigating a shooting that occurred Friday night in Newark that left one man injured.

Investigators say that on June 2, 2023, at approximately 11:30 p.m., troopers began investigating a shooting after a 52-year-old man responded to the hospital with a gunshot wound. Troopers discovered that earlier that night at approximately 10:00 p.m., the victim saw an unknown male driving erratically on northbound Sunset Lake Road. The victim began arguing with the male when they reached the red light at Sunset Lake Road and Old Baltimore Pike. During the argument, the unknown male shot at the victim several times with a handgun and then fled the scene. The victim was shot once in his hand, and he later went to the hospital on his own for medical treatment.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 20-30 years old, who was driving a 2005-2010 gold Buick LeSabre with an out-of-state registration plate. Surveillance video and images are not yet available.
