Plan Your Drive: I-95 Construction in Philadelphia Set to Change Your Commute

Traffic Alert

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has released details regarding upcoming construction activities on Interstate 95, which will include significant lane and ramp closures. These operations, essential for the installation of overhead signage and continued bridge construction, are set to impact traffic patterns across Philadelphia.

Commencing on Monday, November 18, and proceeding through Friday, November 22, motorists traveling northbound on I-95 will encounter right lane closures between the Cottman Avenue and Betsy Ross Bridge interchanges. These closures are scheduled from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM daily, aligning with work hours dedicated to overhead sign installations.

Further disruptions will occur in Center City on Monday, November 18, and Tuesday, November 19, from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM. During these times, the ramp from Columbus Boulevard to northbound I-95 will be inaccessible, and a left lane will be closed between the Columbus Boulevard and I-676 interchanges. The closures facilitate barrier installations, with traffic redirected north along Columbus Boulevard to access the I-95 on-ramp at Summer Street.

Continuing the pattern of overnight work, Wednesday, November 20, and Thursday, November 21, will see right lane closures near the Columbus Boulevard interchange from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM. These operations are pivotal to the $329 million I-95 Central Access Philadelphia (CAP) Project, aimed at enhancing infrastructure by replacing and expanding the cap over I-95 and Columbus Boulevard between Walnut and Chestnut streets.

In Northeast Philadelphia, the forthcoming lane closures represent concluding efforts in the emergency bridge replacement initiative at the Cottman Avenue Interchange. Additionally, Tacony Street will be closed on Saturday as part of the $270 million I-95/BS2 project, which involves the comprehensive reconstruction of I-95 from Margaret Street to Carver Street.
