The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that pavement repair will be performed at night next week on Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) under a $36.8 million project to resurface and repair nearly five miles of the interstate, the associated on-and-off ramps, and 23 bridges from U.S. 1 South (City Avenue) to Interstate 676 (Vine Street Expressway) in Philadelphia.
The work schedule and location are:
- Sunday, May 21, through Thursday, May 25, from 9:00 PM to 4:00 AM the following morning, lane closures will be in place on sections of eastbound I-76 between the Montgomery Drive (Exit 341) and I-676 (Exit 344) interchanges.
Motorists are being advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
Under this contract, PennDOT will mill and overlay I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) pavement in both directions; perform concrete base, shoulder and barrier repair and replacement as needed; construct minor grade adjustments for existing inlets at select locations; replace damaged signs; install new pavement markings, delineators and rumble strips; and perform bridge repairs.
H&K Group, Inc. of Skippack, PA, is the general contractor on this project, which is financed with 100% federal funds. Work on the entire project is expected to finish in late 2024.
