PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Elevation Project, a Philadelphia-based organization dedicated to empowering fresh starts, will continue its community efforts on Saturday, June 29, 2024. From 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the group will host its annual Run It Back Clean Slate Record Clearing Clinic and Men’s Health Fair at Fairmount Park, 49th & Parkside Avenue.

The event offers a twofold service. First, it provides free legal assistance from Philadelphia Lawyers for Social Equity (PLSE). This service allows individuals with Pennsylvania criminal records to consult with lawyers about expunging or sealing their records. To meet with a lawyer, attendees must register and check in by 2:30 p.m. This initiative aims to create new opportunities for those affected by past convictions.

This year’s clinic is particularly notable due to recent legislation in Pennsylvania that now permits many felony convictions to be sealed for the first time. LaTrista Webb, founder of The Elevation Project, expressed enthusiasm for the event. “We are extremely excited for this year’s Record Clearing Clinic Summer Party! The new legislation offers unprecedented opportunities,” said Webb. She also highlighted the significance of hosting the event in June to coincide with National Men’s Health Month. “We wanted to recognize National Men’s Health Month, so we added the Men’s Health Fair. We are happy to bring these resources to the men of our community in a fun and safe environment,” she added.

In addition to legal services, the event will feature health resources aimed at encouraging men to take charge of their well-being. Organizations such as Keystone First, Penn Dental Medicine, Maternity Care Coalition, Jefferson Health Plan, and Black Men Heal will provide various health services and information.

Run It Back is more than just a clinic; it’s a community celebration. The event will include activities for children, such as a bounce house, as well as free food, a live DJ, raffles, vendors, and musical performances. This year’s main attractions are live performances by Philadelphia’s own rapper and businessman Cassidy, and New York’s multifaceted artist Styles P of The LOX.

The event is sponsored by The Promise PHL (City of Philadelphia) in partnership with Curtis Jones, Jr., Council Member of Philadelphia’s 4th District. The combination of legal aid and health services aims to foster a supportive community environment, providing attendees with both immediate assistance and long-term benefits.

By offering these resources in a single event, The Elevation Project seeks to address multiple facets of community well-being, from legal barriers to health concerns. The anticipated turnout reflects the community’s need and appreciation for such comprehensive support. As attendees gather at Fairmount Park, they will find not only the help they need but also a sense of unity and celebration.
