Philadelphia Police Seek Public’s Assistance in Identifying Suspect in Armed Robbery

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Philadelphia Police Department’s Northwest Detective Division is calling on the public to help identify a suspect involved in an alleged armed robbery at a local market.

On the evening of January 13, 2024, at 8:55 PM, an individual reportedly entered the Yala Habibi Market located at 5042 N. 5th St. A verbal dispute ensued between the offender and an employee, after which the suspect allegedly breached the counter area, assaulted the worker, and brandished a gun.

The suspect then reportedly demanded money from the cash register, making away with an estimated $1,000 before fleeing the scene. He was last seen heading southbound on N. 5th St and westbound on Ashdale. Local store owners have reported to police that the male suspect is known to frequent the area of N. 5th St.

The suspect is described as an unknown black male, tall with a medium build. At the time of the alleged incident, he was seen wearing a blue and white hoodie, black pants, and red and white sneakers.

The Philadelphia Police Department urges anyone who recognizes this individual or has any information regarding this alleged crime to contact the Northwest Detective Division at 215-686-3353/3354, referring to ID#: DC-24-35-002656. Tips can also be submitted via telephone at 215.686.TIPS (8477) or texted to the same number. All tips will be kept confidential. Authorities have advised the public not to approach the suspect but to dial 911 immediately if spotted.
