PHILADELPHIA, PA — As the festive season approaches, Philadelphia Parks & Recreation is appealing to the spirit of giving that defines this time of year. The department is encouraging locals to donate to various local toy, clothing, and food drives, helping those in need within the community during these special times.

One notable initiative is the McPherson Square Toy & Winter Warmth Drive, which invites residents to donate new toys and winter accessories for young people and families in Kensington. Donated items will be given out at the McPherson Square Holiday Celebration on December 16, 2023. Until December 15, collection boxes for new items are available at One Parkway Building, The Municipal Services Building, and the northwest entrance to City Hall. An Amazon Wishlist has also been created for those who prefer online shopping. For more information, contact John Murawski at John.Murawski@Phila.gov.

In addition, several recreation centers around the city are hosting their own drives. The Operation Angels Outreach Drive, running until December 22, 2023, is calling for toy and food donations at the Holmesburg Recreation Center at 4500 Rhawn Street. For more details, call 215-685-8714.

The West Mill Creek Coat Drive and Give Away on December 15, 2023, is another opportunity to spread warmth this holiday season. The event, which runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., is asking for new or gently used coats for children and adults. Interested donors can call 215-685-0186 for additional information.

Philadelphians can continue to make a difference throughout the season by finding other local drives using the Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Finder app. By giving a little, we can change a lot, warming hearts and homes this holiday season.
