PennDOT Launches Major Bridge Construction on U.S. 1 in Bucks County

Traffic Alert

BUCKS COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced a major bridge construction project on southbound U.S. 1 in Middletown and Bensalem townships, Bucks County. The scheduled construction is part of PennDOT’s broader efforts to reconstruct and widen U.S. 1, improve interchanges, and construct new bridges.

The construction work will commence next week, bringing with it some anticipated traffic disruptions. On Monday, March 4, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, there will be a right-lane closure on southbound U.S. 1 between Route 413 (Bellevue Avenue) and Rockhill Drive. Commuters who rely on this route should brace for potential delays and are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work area.

The construction operation is part of the larger $116 million Section RC2 contract, which plans to enhance the highway from the Turnpike Interchange in Bensalem Township to an area north of the Penndel/Business U.S. 1 in Middletown Township. This significant investment underscores PennDOT’s commitment to improving the safety and efficiency of Pennsylvania’s roadways.

However, Buck County residents should note that all scheduled activities are weather-dependent and subject to change. Unpredictable weather conditions could potentially delay the progress of the construction works, leading to adjustments in the schedule.

The reconstruction and widening of the highway aims to provide a smoother, more efficient travel experience, accommodating the growing number of vehicles on the road. The improved interchanges and new bridges will not only boost the capacity of the highway but also enhance safety for all road users.
