NEWTOWN TWP, PA — Delaware County motorists, get ready for a longer commute. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that ongoing construction work on Route 3 (West Chester Pike) in Newtown Township will continue. This is part of a local safety improvement project aimed at bettering the road conditions and overall driving experience.
This construction phase begins Sunday, February 25, and is expected to last until Friday, March 29. During this period, a lane closure is scheduled on Route 3 affecting both directions between Boot Road and Ellis Avenue. The closures will take place from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, and again from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM the following morning on weekdays and Sunday nights.
In simple terms, a ‘lane closure’ means one or more lanes on a road are blocked off for traffic, usually to allow roadwork to be carried out safely. With fewer lanes available for vehicles during these times, traffic is likely to slow down, causing delays.
PennDOT is advising motorists to plan ahead and allow extra time when traveling through the work area. The reason? Backups and delays are inevitable due to the lane closure. This means your regular commute might take longer than usual, so it would be wise to factor in some additional travel time.
Remember, like most outdoor projects, the construction work is subject to weather conditions. All scheduled activities depend on the weather, meaning unfavorable conditions could potentially lead to changes in the construction schedule.
So, as you navigate these changes, remember to stay patient, plan your routes wisely, and perhaps enjoy an audiobook or podcast during the longer rides. Safe travels, Delaware County!
