DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced plans to begin overnight resurfacing operations on Concord Road in Aston, Concord, Chester, and Bethel townships in Delaware County. This is part of a larger, ambitious $16.9 million contract aimed at repairing and resurfacing 28 state roadways within the county.
Starting Sunday, March 17, through Thursday, March 21, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, motorists should anticipate lane closures with flagging scheduled on Concord Road between Bethel Road and U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike). The work will involve milling, which is the process of removing a layer of the existing pavement before applying a new layer. Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through this work area as backups and delays may occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
This pavement improvement project will see PennDOT mill and resurface a total of 45 miles of state highways in Delaware County using a bituminous material. This type of material, also known as asphalt, is a sticky, black, highly viscous liquid or semi-solid form of petroleum. The new pavements will seal the roadways, protecting them from water damage and providing motorists with a smoother riding surface.
Allan Myers of Worcester, Montgomery County, is the general contractor on this project, which is financed entirely with state funds.
