Nighttime Lane Closures on I-95 in Philadelphia to Cause Delays

Lane closures

PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that nighttime lane closures on Interstate 95 in Northeast Philadelphia will disrupt traffic next week.

From Monday, June 10, through Thursday, June 13, a right lane closure will be in place on northbound I-95 between Tioga Street and the Betsy Ross Bridge from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning. These closures are necessary for core borings as part of the design phase for PennDOT’s upcoming I-95/AF3 project.

Motorists should anticipate backups and delays and are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the area. All activities depend on weather conditions.

The core borings are critical for the design and planning of Section AF3, which includes the reconstruction of northbound I-95 and its structures between Ann Street and Wheatsheaf Lane. This section of the project is tentatively scheduled to begin construction in 2025.

PennDOT aims to improve infrastructure while minimizing inconvenience, but motorists should prepare for significant delays during the work hours.
