SOUTHEASTERN PENNSYLVANIA — Travelers on Interstate 476 should brace for potential delays next week due to scheduled milling and paving work, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced. The work is part of a substantial $63.7 million initiative to resurface and enhance nearly 17 miles of the interstate, including ramps and bridges spanning from I-76 in West Conshohocken Borough, Montgomery County, to I-95 in Ridley Township, Delaware County.

From Monday, April 29, through Friday, May 3, nightly lane closures will occur from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Northbound sections between the Route 3 and I-76 interchanges, as well as southbound sections between the U.S. 1 and I-95 interchanges, will be affected. Additionally, Darby Road in Haverford Township will see reduced lanes for bridge repair during daytime hours from Wednesday, May 1, through Friday, May 3.

Motorists are urged to plan extra travel time when passing through these areas due to expected traffic backups and delays. The successful completion of this work hinges on favorable weather conditions.

The extensive project aims not only to mill and overlay the interstate’s travel lanes and shoulders but also to conduct repairs on 49 structures, improve stormwater management, stabilize rock slopes, mend sound walls, replace inlets, and install new pavement markings, delineators, rumble strips, signage, and guiderail. These improvements are designed to extend the highway’s lifespan, enhance ride quality, and elevate safety standards, addressing the deteriorating conditions of critical roadside elements.

H&K Group, Inc., based in Skippack, PA, has taken on the role of general contractor for this federally funded project, with an expected completion date in late 2025.
