Newark Teen and Adult Arrested for Possession of Handgun, Marijuana

WILMINGTON, DEWilmington Police have arrested a Newark man and juvenile on gun and drug charges.

Authorities state that on December 16 at approximately 6:33 p.m. officers on proactive patrol conducted a vehicle stop in the 500 block of West 7th Street.  Police made contact with 21-year-old Jermaine Washington-Loper and a 16-year-old male juvenile, both of Newark.  Following a brief investigation, police recovered a loaded .22 caliber handgun and 2 grams of marijuana.  Police took both suspects into custody without incident.

Washington-Loper was charged with the following offenses in addition to a traffic violation:

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
  • Possession of Marijuana

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $10,000 cash-only bail.

The 16-year-old juvenile was charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
  • Possession of Marijuana

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $10,000 cash-only bail.
