Montgomery County and New Hanover Township Collaborate on Innovative “Traffic Garden” to Boost Kids’ Learning

Traffic Garden

NEW HANOVER, PA — The Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Office of Public Health (OPH) in collaboration with New Hanover Township, is inviting the public to the grand opening of the Traffic Garden, a fun and educational haven for young road explorers. The event will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Community Park, 2766 Gail Drive, Gilbertsville, PA 19525.

This unique and safe space has been designed to teach road safety behavior and skills to children and young cyclists from an early age.

The Traffic Garden is a set of scaled-down streets which include real-world features such as intersections, stop and yield signs, and roundabouts, without vehicle traffic. Enclosed by a newly installed fence, the garden includes painted roads and colorful spaces on sealed asphalt. While the Traffic Garden will be used for safety lessons, it will also be open to the community during posted park hours.

The Traffic Garden is funded by the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s Preventive Health and Health Services Block Grant.
