Man Arrested by Wilmington Police Faces Drug, Gun Charges

WILMINGTON, DE — A man who was arrested by Wilmington Police faces drug and gun charges.

Authorities state that on September 23 at approximately 8:05 a.m. police were on proactive patrol in the area of 7th and West Streets when they attempted to make contact with 33-year-old Barshe Shields after he was observed acting suspiciously.  Shields fled from officers but was quickly taken into custody without incident.  Police recovered a loaded 9mm handgun and 1.9 grams of cocaine.

Shields was charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $33,000 cash-only bail.
