Man Arrested After Fleeing Police and Discarding Firearm

WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police announced the arrest of 29-year-old Rashad Walker on gun charges.

Authorities stated that on December 29 at approximately 10:06 p.m., police were in the 1600 block of Jessup Street when they observed Rashad Walker acting in a suspicious manner.  When police attempted to make contact with Walker, he fled on foot.  Officers observed Walker discard a firearm into the Brandywine River.  Walker was quickly taken into custody without incident.  With the assistance of the Delaware State Police Dive Team, a loaded 9mm handgun was recovered.

Walker was charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
  • Hindering Prosecution
  • Resisting Arrest

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $23,000 cash-only bail.
