Major Drug Bust in Newark Leads to Seizure of Heroin, Fentanyl, and Cocaine

NEWARK, DE — In a major drug bust, law enforcement officials seized a large quantity of heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine from an apartment in Newark, Delaware. Erickson Fajardo-Solano (32) and Jairo Almarante-Diaz (35) were both arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.

Authorities announced that on February 23, 2023, a search warrant execution at an apartment located in the 200 block of Thorn Lane in Newark, Delaware was conducted by members of the Homeland Security Investigations – Border Enforcement Security Task Force, New Castle City Police Department, and Smyrna Police Department. As a result of this search, Erickson Fajardo-Solano and Jairo Almarante-Diaz, both of whom were present at the property, were contacted by Officers and Agents. During the investigation, Agents and Officers uncovered $537.00 presumably from drug activity as well as 13.0 grams of Heroin/Fentanyl and 5.8 grams of Cocaine/Crack Cocaine from within the premises.

Agents and Officers looking into the activities of Mr. Almarante-Diaz quickly uncovered another address connected to him in Newark, Delaware. Upon obtaining a search warrant for the apartment on Winchester Road, they discovered a treasure trove of illegal substances: 3,391.8 grams of heroin and fentanyl, 59.2 grams of cocaine and crack cocaine, and an additional $935 worth of drug proceeds were all seized in one fell swoop.

Mr. Almarante-Diaz was charged with two counts of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance in a tier 3 quantity, two counts of possession of a controlled substance in a tier 3 quantity, conspiracy 2nd degree, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Mr. Almarante-Diaz was arraigned at the Justice of the Peace Court 11 via videophone and was remanded to the Delaware Department of Correction after failing to post a $120,200.00 cash bail.
