LANCASTER, PA — A Columbia juvenile charged with stabbing and killing her boyfriend last month waived a preliminary hearing Monday.

Janiyah Torres, 17 of the 200 block of N. Third Street, will face charges of criminal homicide in the first and third degree for the August 14, 2023, incident in Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas.

According to the criminal complaint, Columbia Borough Police Officers responded to the 200 block of N. Third Street around 11:49 p.m. when Torres reported a stabbing.

Officers found 19-year-old Anthony Serrano Jr. with a single stab wound and he was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment before succumbing to the injury.

Investigators discovered prior to the stabbing the victim and defendant were involved in a domestic dispute. Torres was arrested at the scene without incident and is being held at Lancaster County Youth Intervention Center in lieu of bail.

Assistant District Attorneys Janie Swinehart and Sarah Darok are prosecuting the case. Columbia Borough Police Detective Matthew Leddy filed charges.

Information, a criminal complaint, or an arrest is not a declaration of guilt. A suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
