Helius Medical Technologies Amplifies Presence at 2024 APTA Combined Sections Meeting

Helius Medical Technologies

NEWTOWN, PA — Helius Medical Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: HSDT) is set to expand its presence at the 2024 American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Combined Sections Meeting (CSM), taking place from February 15 through February 17 at the Boston Convention and Exposition Center. The company plans to exhibit its innovative Portable Neuromodulation Stimulator (PoNS®) and host an after-hours event.

The PoNS device, a non-implantable, orally applied therapy that uses electrical stimulation in conjunction with rehabilitative physical exercise, has shown promise in improving gait in patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). At the conference, Helius will underscore the crucial role that physical therapists play in administering this groundbreaking therapy.

The company’s involvement in the conference comes on the heels of the first full year of PoNS availability to MS patients in the United States. Over this period, Helius has seen considerable growth in engagement with physical therapists. Today, PoNS-trained physical therapists are operating nationwide, particularly in states with high MS prevalence, such as New York, California, Florida, Texas, Ohio, and Michigan.

Whitney Patrickson, DPT, Helius’ Director of Physical Therapy, emphasized the importance of physical therapists in the successful administration of PoNS Therapy. “Physical therapists are integral to the success of PoNS Therapy. They use their clinical expertise to develop an appropriate treatment regimen that addresses the patient’s specific deficits with a goal of improving their gait,” she said.

At the convention, visitors can stop by booth 7074 to learn more about PoNS Therapy from Patrickson and Janet Holland, Helius’ Director of Sales Development. Topics of discussion will include how PoNS works, how to become a registered PoNS trainer, and how to integrate PoNS Therapy into clinical practice.

These discussions will continue at the after-hours event on February 16, taking place from 5-6:30 p.m. at booth 7074. Dr. Naseem Chatiwala, DPT, MS, will join Patrickson and Holland to share her experience integrating PoNS into her clinical practice and the therapeutic benefits she has observed.

Patrickson highlighted the importance of conferences like APTA’s CSM in raising awareness among physical therapists about innovative treatments like PoNS Therapy. She said, “PoNS Therapy gives physical therapists a powerful new tool to counter some of the life-changing effects of MS, and we look forward to speaking with physical therapists about PoNS and highlighting its therapeutic potential.”
