PHILADELPHIA, PA — Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, D.D., Archbishop of Philadelphia, recently announced the appointment of Mrs. Heather Huot, MSW, LSW, as the Secretary for Catholic Human Services (CHS) in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Effective January 1, 2024, Huot will become the first woman to hold this position in the history of the Archdiocese. She succeeds Mr. James Amato, MSW, who is retiring after more than four decades of dedicated service to those in need across the Philadelphia region.
During his tenure, Amato served in various frontline and administrative capacities within CHS, including his role as Secretary since 2016. His retirement on December 31st marks the end of a career that had a profound impact on countless lives in the local community.
Archbishop Pérez expressed his deep gratitude to Amato for his passion and selfless dedication, stating, “Innumerable lives have been deeply and positively impacted thanks to his work and his leadership. I pray that his retirement will be filled with peace, joy, and well-deserved rest.”
He also extended prayerful congratulations to Huot, highlighting her rich experience with charitable ministries, strong relationships with partners, and the zealous heart of a Missionary Disciple. “I know that our good works will flourish and grow to reach even more people under her stewardship,” he said.
