FLOURTOWN, PA — The Lighting Your Way podcast, which helps people navigate the complex healthcare system in order to receive the best care for themselves or their loved ones, has released its third season.
Many episodes feature real-life stories from nurse advocates who have helped patients through difficult, complicated, unexpected, and long-term medical issues. Tips and practical advice are given so that listeners can advocate for themselves.
Other episodes include a look at the causes of the nurse shortage, the state of nursing education, and a series on the “Legends of Nursing.” The season three opening episode called attention to the current nursing crisis in hospitals, with two nurses speaking anonymously for fear of reprisals.
Betty Long, RN, MHA, started the podcast in March 2021 as a natural outgrowth of her work as founder, CEO, and President of Guardian Nurses, which currently helps hundreds of thousands of patients in the United States through its innovative Patient Advocacy and Mobile Care Coordinator® Programs.
“We are teaching people about patient advocacy by giving them a glimpse into the stories of the people who know it best,” says Long. “We want to give them the tools they need to put the control back in their hands.”
Long started Guardian Nurses after guiding several elderly family members through the healthcare system, having wondered, “What happens to patients who don’t have a nurse in the family?”
The Lighting Your Way podcast’s name and logo were inspired by nurse pioneer Florence Nightingale, who is often depicted with a lantern in her hand and is sometimes called the Lady With the Lamp. It is a fitting metaphor for the podcast’s mission, which is to help shed light on the mystery of the medical system to help people better understand how to get the best care for themselves and their loved ones.
The third season of the Lighting Your Way podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and for streaming online at https://www.guardiannurses.com/lighting-your-way/.
