Gun Found During Police Vehicle Stop in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE — The Wilmington Police announced the arrest of 34-year-old Jawan Hamilton of Newark on gun charges.

Authorities stated that on February 21 at approximately 3:05 p.m., members of the Wilmington Street Crimes Unit conducted a vehicle stop in the 100 block of North Vanburen Street. Officers made contact with the driver, 34-year-old Jawan Hamilton of Newark. Following a brief investigation, police recovered a loaded .40-caliber handgun.

Hamilton was charged with the following offenses including a traffic violation:

  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
  • Possession of a Firearm by a Person Previously Convicted of a Violent Felony
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $30,100 cash-only bail.
