Former Teacher and Local Mom Tapped to Represent State House District 163

Election

DREXEL HILL, PA — Delaware County Democrats nominated Drexel Hill resident, public servant, and former Upper Darby School Board Member Heather Boyd to be the Democratic nominee for the upcoming special election to fill the vacant seat in HD-163.

“As a former teacher and local mom, I am running to make sure that every person and family in our district gets the resources and representation they deserve. I will work tirelessly to make sure residents of the 163rd District have a seat at the table in Harrisburg,” Boyd says. “Working in the state and federal government, I’ve seen firsthand how listening to the people makes democracy work. I have the experience necessary to get results for our community on day one.”

Heather Boyd was one of three candidates who sought the Democratic nomination and she received 91% of the vote on the first ballot.

“We pride ourselves on running an open process and giving all candidates an opportunity. The House Majority runs through Delaware County in May and Heather Boyd is the clear and resounding choice of local Democrats,” said Colleen Guiney, long-time volunteer and current Chair of the Delaware County Democratic Party.

Heather Boyd resides in Drexel Hill with her husband Sean and her two school-aged children. She is also the mom of two grown foster children and has a three-year-old granddaughter. She taught History and Art History at the high school and college level for 10 years. Previously Heather worked as Chief of Staff to Representative Leanne Krueger, and more recently served as the District Director and Senior Advisor for Congresswoman Mary Gay Scanlon. She founded the Delaware County Chapter of NOW, and has served for six years as the Chair of the Upper Darby Democratic Committee.

From 2015 to 2018 she served as an elected member of the Upper Darby School Board. During her time on the school board, Heather was a leading advocate for many innovative education reforms including free breakfast and lunches for all students to ensure that no child went hungry, no child was left out, and every child had the best opportunity possible to succeed.

Heather says she will fight for laws and budgets that serve the district and will be an advocate for every resident who seeks services from the state of Pennsylvania. “She has the experience to step into this role, and will fight for our vibrant, diverse community every day,” says Guiney.
