ELKTON, MD — The Community Services Foundation of Cecil County has received $2,700 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help feed neighbors in their time of need. The Cecil County Help Center will use the gift to stock the pantry with necessary items for Cecil County’s food insecurity.

“We are so grateful for the support from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation,” said Christina Shirley, Cecil County Human Services Supervisor. “This gift truly will make a nutritional difference in the items being distributed at the Cecil County Help Center.”

The Cecil County Help Center is working to build and nurture community partnerships, provide resources to assist people in economic need, increase prevention efforts, and protect vulnerable children and adults. Primarily serving as a food pantry, the Help Center is open Monday through Friday for food-insecure Cecil County residents. There are about 950 households that utilize services at the Help Center each month, with the majority of individuals served being seniors and children. With this gift from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation, the Help Center will be able to purchase more fresh fruits and vegetables, which are critically needed due to shortages in food pantries.

The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $17.8 million in grants.
