Father Arrested for Abusing 9-Year-Old Son

NEWPORT, DE – Newport Police have announced the arrest of 38-year-old Brandon Ruffin from Newport on Child Abuse charges.

According to authorities, in February of 2023, the Newport Police Department began investigating a child abuse case that took place in the 100 block of Loren Court. The victim, a nine-year-old boy, had sustained physical injuries as a result of being assaulted by his stepfather. Investigators executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence and located evidence related to the crime. The suspect was identified as Brandon Ruffin, 38 years old from Newport, Delaware.

As a result of the investigation, Ruffin has been charged with Child Abuse Third Degree and issued a $1,000 unsecured bond after being arraigned via videophone at the Justice of The Peace Court #02. Mr. Ruffin was also issued a no contact order with the victim in this incident.

Information, a criminal complaint, or an arrest is not a declaration of guilt. A suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
