PHILADELPHIA, PA — Philadelphia drivers, prepare for some disruptions. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced scheduled construction work on the U.S. 1 (Roosevelt Expressway) as part of a $100.6 million project to rehabilitate the Wayne Junction Viaduct.
The work, which will take place over the SEPTA tracks and Nicetown neighborhood, is scheduled to begin next week. Motorists should brace for nighttime lane closures and possible delays during this period.
From Monday, March 4, through Thursday, March 7, southbound U.S. 1 will see periodic single-lane closures between 17th Street and Interstate 76. The closures will be in effect from 6:00 PM to 5:30 AM the following morning.
Northbound U.S. 1 will also be impacted. From Monday, March 4, through Thursday, March 7, there will be periodic single-lane closures between Interstate 76 and 17th Street. These closures will run from 7:00 PM to 5:30 AM the following morning.
These closures are necessary for PennDOT’s contractor to perform post-construction punch list activities, essentially wrapping up the last details of the Wayne Junction Viaduct project.
