WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police announced the arrest of a 25-year-old Elsmere man on gun charges.
Jiaire Al-Amin has been charged with the tow counts of Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, Resisting Arrest, and other related offenses.
The criminal complaint alleges that on July 17, at approximately 8:19 p.m., members of Wilmington’s Uniformed Services Division responded to the 300 block of Lombard Street, in reference to a person with a gun. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with 25-year-old Jiaire Al-Amin of Elsmere, who fled on foot. Following a brief foot pursuit, Al-Amin was taken into custody without incident. Police recovered a loaded 9mm handgun and 5 grams of crack cocaine.
Al-Amin was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $83,500 cash-only bail.
