DOYLESTOWN TWP, PA — Travelers in Doylestown Township, Bucks County, are being advised to brace for potential traffic snarls as the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) presses on with a crucial safety enhancement project. The initiative, which involves the construction of roundabouts at the intersection of Easton Road and New Britain Road/Sauerman Road, aims to streamline traffic flow and bolster safety for motorists.
Starting Wednesday, May 15, Easton Road will see a significant shift in its usual traffic pattern. The road will be narrowed to a single lane at the critical junction for a full 24 hours. To facilitate movement around the construction zone, drivers will be rerouted via Sauerman Road, Edison Furlong Road, and Route 611 (Easton Road).
PennDOT has issued a warning to those who frequently travel this area to anticipate possible backups and delays. Given that the timing and extent of these disruptions are heavily dependent on weather conditions, motorists are encouraged to allot extra time for their commutes through this stretch.
The roundabout project represents a significant investment in local infrastructure, aimed at reducing the potential for accidents while accommodating pedestrian and bicycle traffic. The planned roundabouts will feature new drainage systems, sidewalks compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), crossings designed for cyclists, enhanced lighting, and thorough pavement reconstruction.
Philadelphia-based James D. Morrissey, Inc. has been tapped as the general contractor for this $3.9 million endeavor, which is financed entirely through federal funding.
