NEWARK, DE — The Delaware State Police announced the arrest of 39-year-old Darnell Dorsey from Wilmington, DE for felony resisting and drug charges following an incident Monday night.

Authorities stated that on March 6, 2023, at approximately 10:25 p.m., a trooper on patrol observed a Nissan Maxima parked across two handicapped parking spots without a placard displayed in the parking lot of Wawa located at 4651 Ogletown Stanton Road, Newark. The trooper made contact with the operator who was still in the driver’s seat and immediately observed marijuana in plain sight inside the vehicle. During contact, the suspect refused to provide his identification and would not comply with any of the trooper’s commands. When the trooper attempted to remove the suspect from the vehicle, he attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. While attempting to place the suspect into handcuffs, he reportedly resisted arrest with force. After a physical altercation with the trooper, the suspect identified as Darnell Dorsey was taken into custody. A subsequent search of his vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 1.5 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 17 grams of marijuana, 2 Adderall pills, and drug paraphernalia.

Dorsey was transported back to Troop 6 where he was charged with the following:

  • Possession With Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance (Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest with Force or Violence (Felony)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Possession of Marijuana
