Delaware County Municipalities Receive Over $2.4 Million for Transportation and Safety Upgrades

Grants

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — In a significant boost to local infrastructure, Senator Tim Kearney (D-Delaware) this week announced the allocation of $2,425,595 in Multimodal Transportation funding to four municipalities within the 26th Senatorial District. This financial injection will support a variety of projects in Clifton Heights Borough, Media Borough, Springfield Township, and Upper Providence Township, aimed at enhancing transportation and roadway conditions across the community.

The Multimodal Transportation Fund, an initiative designed to spur economic development and ensure the availability of safe, reliable transportation systems, is the source of this critical funding. It targets the development, rehabilitation, and enhancement of transportation assets, focusing on streetscape improvements, lighting, sidewalk enhancements, pedestrian safety, and the connectivity of transportation assets alongside transit-oriented development.

Senator Kearney emphasized the importance of these funds in promoting community well-being and economic growth. “This funding will directly benefit the 26th district, enhancing safety measures and addressing crucial roadway improvements,” Kearney stated. He highlighted the role of such investments in securing a prosperous future for residents and visitors by providing access to safer and more efficient transportation networks.

Among the projects earmarked for funding are:

  • A substantial $1,700,000 allocated to Clifton Heights Borough for Phase 2 of the Springfield Corridor Infrastructure and Safety Upgrades project. This major investment aims to enhance the overall safety and infrastructure along a key corridor in the borough.
  • Media Borough will receive $50,362 for improvements to the pedestrian crossing at the intersection of Providence Road and 5th Street, making it safer for pedestrians to navigate this busy area.
  • Springfield Township is set to benefit from $354,978 for multimodal safety improvements at the intersection of Powell Road and Leamy Avenue. This project focuses on enhancing safety for all modes of transport, including vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians.
  • Upper Providence Township has been awarded $320,255 to assist with roadway improvements along Ridley Creek Road, aiming to improve the condition and safety of this important route.

These projects reflect a comprehensive approach to addressing the diverse transportation needs of the community, from pedestrian safety enhancements to major roadway upgrades. By focusing on multimodal improvements, the funding supports not only the physical infrastructure but also the broader goal of creating more connected, accessible, and sustainable communities.

The implications of these investments extend beyond immediate safety and convenience benefits. Improved transportation infrastructure can lead to increased property values, attract businesses, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents. Furthermore, these projects demonstrate a commitment to prioritizing the safety and mobility of all community members, reinforcing the importance of investing in infrastructure that meets the needs of a growing and evolving population.

As work begins on these critical projects, Delaware County looks forward to the positive changes these improvements will bring to the region, setting a precedent for future investments in infrastructure that support economic development and community well-being.
