PHILADELPHIA, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that curb and sidewalk construction will soon take place to improve infrastructure near St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia and Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County. The project aims to enhance pedestrian access at the university’s bridge on U.S. 1 (City Avenue).
From Tuesday, February 4, to Friday, February 14, a 24/7 alternating lane closure will be in effect on weekdays along U.S. 1 between 59th Street and Lapsley Lane. The contractor may also extend work into the weekend as needed.
Motorists traveling through this area are urged to plan for potential delays and allow extra time. Traffic backups are anticipated due to the lane closures, and all scheduled work is contingent on weather conditions.
The improvement project is being carried out by St. Joseph’s University under a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit. This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to boost safety and accessibility for both pedestrians and drivers along this busy corridor.
