Construction Scheduled at Night Next Week on I-95 in Delaware County

DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Construction is expected to occur next week on Interstate 95 in Delaware County under an $80.6 million Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) project to rehabilitate pavement and several bridges on more than 11 miles of the interstate in Lower Chichester, Upper Chichester, Chester, Ridley and Tinicum townships, the City of Chester and Upland and Ridley Park boroughs.

The work schedules and locations are as follows:

  • Monday, September 25, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on southbound I-95 between the Philadelphia International Airport (Exit 12) and Route 420 (Exit 9A-B) interchanges;
  • Tuesday, September 26, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on southbound I-95 between the Interstate 476 (Exit 7) and Kerlin Street (Exit 5) interchanges;
  • Wednesday, September 27, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on southbound I-95 between the Kerlin Street (Exit 5) and West Chester/Highland Avenue (Exit 3) interchanges; and
  • Thursday, September 28, and Friday, September 29, a single lane closure will be in place from 7:00 PM to 6:00 AM, followed by a double lane closure from 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM on northbound I-95 between the Commodore Barry Bridge (Exit 4) and Interstate 476 (Exit 7) interchanges.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because significant backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent and subject to change.

Under this project, PennDOT’s contractor will take on various tasks to enhance the existing infrastructure. This includes repairing and rehabilitating concrete pavement, bridges, median barrier, and traffic signs. Additionally, improvements will be made to the Pennsylvania Welcome Center, including concrete base repairs and new parking stripes, pavement markings, and signs.

Allan A. Myers, Inc. of Worcester, Montgomery County is the general contractor on the project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
