ELKTON, MD — Tuesday Evening, County Executive Danielle Hornberger submitted a resolution to the County Council detailing plans for the placement of a new synthetic turf athletic field at Rising Sun High School. The newest field would complete the County’s turf field initiative and join other historically constructed fields on the campuses of Perryville, North East, Bo Manor, Calvert Park, and soon-to-be-constructed Elkton High School.
“I’m very pleased that we are able to use this State funding earmarked explicitly for parks and recreational use”, Hornberger noted. “Being creative with state and federal funding to offset the expenses typically incurred for needs of our community is a core component of my administration. To have all five high schools on an even playing field while using zero County taxpayer funds for both Elkton and Rising Sun High School’s turf fields is something to truly celebrate!”
Cecil County’s Parks and Recreation Director, Clyde Van Dyke praised the resolution, stating “The ability to utilize funds from the State grant will permit us to follow through on our commitment to construct the much-desired Rising Sun High School turf field.”
The passing of this resolution and subsequent State Board of Public Works approval will allow Parks and Recreation to secure a contractor, materials, and a spot in the construction timeline for the summer of 2023.
Synthetic turf fields provide a safer venue for activities focused on meeting the County’s goal of providing healthy activities that positively impact the lives of Cecil County Youth.
