BUCKS COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced the early completion of the Worthington Mill Road bridge renovation project in Wrightstown and Northampton townships, Bucks County. The bridge, which crosses over Neshaminy Creek, was reopened five months ahead of schedule.
The completion of this $4.5 million project aligns with Governor Shapiro’s commitment to improving Pennsylvania’s infrastructure efficiently and effectively. It echoes the recent success of reopening I-95 in just 12 days, thanks to PennDOT’s dedicated team of engineers and work crews.
The original bridge, a 68-year-old single-lane structure, has been replaced with a three-span composite prestressed concrete structure. The new bridge measures 84 feet long and 32 feet wide, allowing for two lanes of traffic, a significant improvement from the previous one-lane crossing.
The Worthington Mill Road bridge, which services approximately 2,600 vehicles daily, was closed between Twining Road and Swamp Road in September 2021. This closure followed significant deterioration of the roadway approaches due to flood waters from Hurricane Ida.
H&K Group, Inc., based in Skippack, PA, served as the general contractor for the bridge replacement project. The project was financed entirely by state funds, demonstrating Pennsylvania’s commitment to investing in critical infrastructure improvements.
The early completion of this project minimizes disruptions for travelers and showcases PennDOT’s commitment to cutting red tape and working as safely and efficiently as possible. This renovation will greatly enhance the daily commute for thousands of Pennsylvanians.
