Bridge Replacement Project on Route 772 in Lancaster County to Cause Traffic Shifts

Traffic Alert

MANHEIM, PA — Motorists traveling through Manheim Borough, Lancaster County should brace for an upcoming traffic switch at a bridge replacement project on Route 772 (West High Street). The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced changes in the flow of traffic at this construction site, which spans Rife Run between Meadow Lane and South Snyder Street.

Currently, the bridge is restricted to a single lane with temporary signals controlling traffic. However, starting Monday, March 18, weather permitting, the contractor will transition traffic from one side of the bridge to the newly constructed side. During this changeover, the signals will be placed in flash mode and flaggers will be on hand to direct traffic through the work zone. This could cause longer than usual delays.

Once the traffic switch is complete, the signals will return to full activation, allowing alternating directions of traffic to cross the bridge. The contractor will then commence work on the closed side of the bridge.

Motorists are urged to be alert and drive with caution through the work zone. In the final phase of the project, short-term lane restrictions under flagging will occur for final paving and line painting. All work is expected to be completed by August 14, 2024.

This project involves the replacement of the bridge, minor approach work, and other miscellaneous construction. While the temporary inconvenience may cause some frustration, these upgrades are a necessary step in ensuring safer and smoother travel for all motorists in the long run.
