READING, PA — The heat of summer can take a dangerous toll on the health of older adults. That’s why the Berks County Area Agency on Aging announced the launch of its Cooling Program, designed to provide free portable air-conditioners to eligible seniors residing in Berks County.

To qualify for this program, seniors must be aged 60 or older, live in Berks County, have an income that does not exceed $2000/month for single individuals or $4000/month for married ones, and have heart- or breathing-related medical issues such as COPD, Bronchitis, or Emphysema. A doctor’s note reflecting the accepted diagnosis/condition is required along with a completed application.

“We understand how heat can adversely affect our seniors’ health,” said the program’s spokesperson. “That’s why we’re thrilled to provide this much-needed service to our older adults, who often struggle to cope with the summer heat.”

The deadline to apply for this program is June 9, 2023. Seniors who meet the eligibility criteria will be contacted by the Area Agency on Aging to schedule the air-conditioner pick-up. Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity to keep cool this summer; apply today at www.berksaging.org or call 610-478-6500.
