Bear Man Arrested, Police Recover Loaded Handgun, Cocaine

WILMINGTON, DEWilmington Police have arrested a Bear man on gun and drug charges.

Authorities state that on July 20 at approximately 3:30 p.m., members of the Street Crimes Unit were in the 700 block of North Washington Street when they made contact with 22-year-old Jerome Ames of Bear.  Following a brief investigation, police recovered a loaded .45 caliber handgun, that was reported stolen, and 3.5 grams of cocaine.  Police took Ames into custody without incident.

Ames was charged with the following offenses:

  • Possession of a Firearm or Ammunition by a Person Prohibited (2 counts)
  • Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon
  • Possession of a Firearm while also in Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $23,200 cash-only bail.
