Bear Man Arrested in Connection to 2022 Fatal Hit and Run

WILMINGTON, DE — The Wilmington Police announced the arrest of a resedent of Bear, Delaware in connection to a 2022 fatal motor vehicle collision.

Authorities stated that on November 29, 2022, at approximately 4:06 a.m., Wilmington Police responded to the 2900 block of Northeast Boulevard, in reference to a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, officers located a victim – 51-year-old James Mcdougale – who later succumbed to his injuries. Prior to the arrival of police, the striking vehicle fled the scene of the collision. The case was assigned to the Wilmington Police Traffic Division – Collision Reconstruction Unit.

The investigation continued, the efforts of the Collision Reconstruction Unit and Uniformed Services Division led to the identification of 59-year-old Marc McCain of Bear, as a suspect and a warrant was obtained for his arrest.

On March 11, McCain was taken into custody in the 100 block of Mendel Court, without incident.

He has been charged with the following offenses in addition to traffic violations:

  • Vehicular Homicide (Second Degree)
  • Leaving the Scene of a Collision Resulting in Death

He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $40,002 cash-only bail.
