Attempted Carjacking Incident Unveils Courageous Victim Who Stayed Strong and Outsmarted the Suspect

NEWARK, DE — The Delaware State Police are investigating an attempted carjacking that occurred early Thursday morning at a Wawa in Newark.

According to Authorities, on September 7, 2023, at approximately 2:34 a.m., troopers responded to Wawa, located at 4651 Ogletown Stanton Road, for an attempted carjacking in the parking lot. The investigation revealed that an unknown suspect demanded the 58-year-old victim get out of her car while pointing a handgun at her and trying to forcefully remove her from her car. The victim did not comply, and the suspect fled in an unidentified vehicle that was parked behind her.

There were no reported injuries following the incident. The suspect is described as a black male wearing dark-colored clothing. Surveillance images and video are not available at this time.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Robbery Unit is investigating this incident. Detectives are asking anyone with information regarding this case to contact Detective B. Harris by calling 302-365-8410. Information may also be provided by contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333.
