Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Board Decides to Maintain Current Dairy Price

Milk

HARRISBURG, PA — The Pennsylvania Milk Marketing Board (PMMB) maintained the Class I over-order premium price for milk at $1.00 per hundredweight and continued its formula for determining the fuel adjuster add-on.

During a hearing before the PMMB earlier this month, Pennsylvania Farm Bureau (PFB) testified in support of keeping the premium at its current level for the next six months.

“Despite indications that the dairy market is starting to show some signs of recovery, many producers are still struggling and have not been able to recover from prolonged low prices,” said Juniata County dairy farmer David Graybill, who is chairman of PFB’s Dairy Committee and serves on PFB’s State Board of Directors. “If the current trend of increased milk prices does not continue, the number of dairy farms in Pennsylvania will continue to fall.”

The over-order premium and the fuel adjuster add-on mandated by PMMB are paid on Class I (fluid) milk that is produced, processed and sold entirely within Pennsylvania.

PMMB’s new pricing order will remain in effect through September 30, 2020.
