HARRISBURG, PA — A federal grand jury has charged Charles Witherson, III, 38, of Lebanon, Pennsylvania, with the distribution and possession of child pornography, according to an announcement from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam detailed the allegations against Witherson, stating that on February 5, 2024, in Lebanon County, he distributed child pornography. Further, on March 29, 2024, Witherson is alleged to have been found in possession of images of child pornography, including some involving a minor under the age of 12.

The case, which has drawn the attention of the FBI for investigation, falls under the prosecution of Assistant U.S. Attorney Christian Haugsby. It brings to light serious accusations within the realm of child exploitation, a matter of grave concern to law enforcement agencies and communities nationwide.

The charges laid out against Witherson carry a severe potential penalty under federal law, including up to 40 years of imprisonment, a lifetime of supervised release following any prison term, and the possibility of a fine. These penalties underscore the seriousness with which the federal system treats crimes involving the exploitation of children.

It is important to note that an indictment itself is not evidence of guilt. As per the principles of the American justice system, Witherson, like all individuals facing criminal charges, is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law. The forthcoming legal process will determine the veracity of the allegations made against him.

As this case progresses through the judicial system, it will undoubtedly be followed closely by both legal experts and the public, serving as a reminder of the complexities and challenges involved in addressing crimes of this nature.
