HARRISBURG, PA — Attorney General Michelle Henry today announced that Michael Bloom, 44, will serve a minimum of two-and-a-half years in prison for entering into multiple elevator installation contracts and never following through with the work.
A Lycoming County Judge sentenced Bloom on Thursday, April 27, 2023, to two-and-a-half to seven years in a State Correctional Institute. Bloom previously paid $106,860 in restitution to victims.
Bloom, of Williamsport, pleaded guilty in February to seven felony counts of Theft by Unlawful Taking.
“We hope this sentence sends a message that my office will stand up for Pennsylvania consumers and do everything in our power to make the victims of scams whole,” Attorney General Henry said. “Bloom deliberately targeted older customers and made promises he did not keep, ultimately pocketing more than $100,000 without doing the contracted work.”
From 2019 through 2022, Bloom entered into contracts for elevator installations at six residences and one church in multiple states, including Pennsylvania. Bloom took deposits from the homeowners and church, and provided little or no services in return. When residents requested refunds, Bloom refused to return their deposits.
Five of the six victims were over 60 years old.
